The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to 144 BNP leaders and activists including its joint secretary general Habib-Un Nabi Khan Sohel in six separate cases filed in Dhaka and Rajshahi on charges of obstructing police in discharging their duties.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan came up with the orders after a hearing on 23 separate bail petitions filed by the accused leaders and workers.
The HC asked 74 accused of three cases filed with Shahbagh and Ramna police stations in Dhaka to surrender before a trial court by March 21 in connection with the cases filed against them.

The High Court today observed that journalists are curious and they will seek information.
If journalists are given the scope to publish information, they will do it, and there is no offence in this, the HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Md Riaz Uddin Khan said.
The bench made the observation while hearing a petition filed by convicted Moazzem Hossain, former officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station, seeking bail in a case filed against him for filming Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi s statement and circulating the clip without her consent.

Journalists have curious minds which dig out information and if they are given the scope to publish that information, they will surely do it since there is no element of offence in it, the High Court observed yesterday.
The observation was made by HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan.

HC grants bail to 89 Chandpur BNP activists

A total of 89 BNP leaders and activists of Chandpur secured anticipatory bail from the High Court today in a criminal case filed on charge of preventing police from discharging duties and injuring them during a clash.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan granted them bail till February 22 after hearing 11 separate petitions filed by the accused.
The court also asked them to surrender to the trial court concerned by February 22 in connection with the case.
Sagir Hossain Leon, a lawyer for the accused petitioners, told The Daily Star that a group of local BNP leaders and activists of Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur brought out a procession on January 12 in protest against an order of a Chandpur court that issued arrest warrant against BNP leader Tarique Rahman in a sedition case.
