Swine Spectacular tests youth on pig knowledge

IPPA May 04, 2021 Youth with a passion for pigs put their knowledge to the test during the eighth-annual Swine Spectacular, presented by the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA). The educational event was held in conjunction with the Iowa State University Block & Bridle Club and Alpha Gamma Rho Spring Spectacular, a hog show sanctioned by the Iowa Swine Jackpot Series. “Swine Spectacular is designed for young people to show off what they know about the pork industry, but it also incorporates production and industry perspectives,” said Hannah Spurr, IPPA’s consumer outreach director. “No matter if they live on a pig farm or not, we hope participants always walk away learning something new.”

Iowa Pork Producers Tip Off Pulled Pork Madness Contest – Mix 94 7 KMCH

(Clive, Iowa) March 16, 2021  As March Madness tips off, so does the fourth-annual Pulled Pork Madness. The bracket-style social media contest, presented by the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA), pits Iowa restaurants against each other for the best pulled pork sandwich.   This year’s “Sweet 16” matchups were announced Monday and include several past contenders. Pork fans have until 10 a.m. Friday, March 19 to vote and help determine which advance to the next round.   Pulled Pork Madness, which mimics the NCAA’s college basketball tournament, follows a similar narrowing process that gets restaurants to the “Elite Eight” and “Final Four.” Earlier this month, IPPA received 544 nominations for 65 Iowa restaurants. The two restaurants with the most votes in each of IPPA’s eight districts make up the “Sweet 16” bracket.
