Even Matt LaFleur had to admit, "It's pretty cool" to get together with his buddy Robert Saleh and reflect on their days as young college assistant co.
There was a different vibe
and sound to practice number six at the Green Bay Packers training camp.
Both were provided by shoulder pads as the team put on the gear for the first time this summer. You could feel an uptick in the energy and there were long awaited football drills taking place, like the always interesting one on one pass rushing drill between offensive and defensive linemen.
Pro Bowl guard Elgton Jenkins, now learning the left tackle spot in David Bakhtiari’s absence got in three straight reps with Preston Smith. Each more spririted than the next. Rookie center Josh Myers got an education from Kenny Clark who flattened him to the ground just after he snapped the ball and Billy Turner got reacquainted with Rashan Gary by giving him a fist jam under the chin the that eventually dislodged Gary’s hat right off. Ah, football.

Whoâs idea it was, however he got back here doesnât matter to Randall Cobb, the former second round pick of the Green Bay Packers a decade ago is thrilled to be back here.  The familiar number 18 was on the practice field, wearing a borrowed helmet and shoes because his own gear couldnât get here as fast as the wide receiver could.
Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst met the media for a rare, second consecutive morning before practice to talk about the trade that brought Cobb back to the team that never bothered to re-sign him following an injury plagued 8th year with the team in 2018.  The Packers gave the Houston Texans a 6th round draft pick in 2022 and convinced Houston to pick up three million dollars of Cobbâs 8.25 guaranteed million dollar contract for this year to lessen the hit on an already tight Green Bay salary cap.
