Little India owner brewing new concept in former Cap Hill Starbucks

When Starbucks decided to close its Cap Hill location after 25 years, Simeran Baidwan didn’t want to lose his caffeine fix.
So, the owner of Little India is getting ready to open Lil Coffea Shop, a new sister concept to his restaurant brand, at 300 E. 6th Ave. this summer.
The shop, named after the coffee plant, will serve coffee roasted by Huckleberry Roasters and breakfast and pastries from Olive & Finch. It will also offer specialty Indian drinks, such as turmeric lattes and Little India’s popular chai tea, which is sourced from India.

Denver Beer Co. hosts the release of new year-round beer called Love This City American Pilsner, which will feature artwork by muralist Pat Milbery on the cans. Milbery’s Love This City mural art, which has become a symbol of the Mile High City, can be found in almost every neighborhood, DBC says. His iconic hearts represent the many layers of love and the City of Denver s loving energy for those who call it home. The release is being held on 303 Day, and Milbery will paint a new mural at DBC s Platte Street taproom.

Denver Community Fridges online three weeks ago, she immediately sprang into action, cooking a giant pot of congee to divvy up into individual portions and put in the group’s refrigerators. “As much privilege as there is in this world, there’s a lot of pain, a lot of sacrifice, a lot of struggle out there,” Wong says.
She is one of the many Denver area residents inspired to donate their food, time, and energy to the two-month-old grassroots initiative, which aims to help address food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond. Jim Norris is loving the Denver Community Fridge program despite having reservations at the start.
“Any trepidation I had about (negative) neighborhood reactions or people abusing it are gone,” he said recently on the one-month anniversary of the fridge’s debut outside his store at Ellsworth Street and South Broadway. “In fact, I’m surprised at how it’s taken off.”
When 24-year-old Eli Zain, founder of Denver Community Fridge, emailed Norris months ago about hosting the fridge, Norris immediately said “yes.” The idea of stocking fresh, donated food for food-insecure residents and unhoused people was something he was already working on thanks to Mar Williams’ Squash the System, a donation cart offering free, fresh vegetables. (Now, in the winter months, it’s a canned-food program.)
