BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – Swedish Medical Group has confirmed that it will close its primary care clinic on Hildebrand Lane this summer, leaving a swath of patients looking for new health care providers. Swedish said it had attempted to find a new provider to take over its Bainbridge clinic but no deal emerged from those efforts.
A message sent to patients last week by Swedish officials confirmed that the clinic will permanently close on July 2.
“Swedish Medical Group’s departure from Bainbridge Island was a difficult but necessary decision for Swedish Medical Group as we continue striving for long-term sustainability of high-quality patient care,” the message said. “Over the past six months, since our initial communication about the impending closure, we hosted discussions with multiple providers in an effort to secure an agreement with a viable healthcare organization to carry on clinic operations. Unfortunately, we were not able to solidify a deal.”

The news: Madrona Venture Labs, the startup studio associated with Madrona Venture Group, has raised $8 million for its fourth fund. The Seattle-based studio also unveiled a new model that turns its investors tech vets such as former Zillow Group CEO Spencer Rascoff; former Qualtrics exec Julie Larson-Green; former Axiom CEO Elena Donio; etc. into co-founders, board members, and advisors of its startup spinouts.

If I remember correctly, Group Health (now KP) was a former tenant in Jefferson Square back in the 1990s.

The letter does not mention the pediatrics clinic. It does not say if Swedish is adding clinic space at 4744 41st, or is converting the pediatrics clinic to the internal medicine clinic. It is evident from the letter that West Seattle is losing medical services with this move. The surgical and dermatology specialist doctors will no longer have offices in West Seattle. We will have to travel to downtown or further away for consultations and pre- and post-op follow up visits.
