Prescribed burn planned as early as next week in the Winlaw area

With support from the BC Wildfire Service, the Slocan Integral Forestry Cooperative is conducting an ecosystem restoration burn near Winlaw.
The burn will cover up to 500-hectares about three kilometres southeast of the townsite.
Fire crews said the burn could begin as early as Wednesday, May 12
th, weather depending.
“Burning will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal, though light smoke may linger in the following days.”

BC Wildfire Service said the prescribed burn, similar to the event in the photo, is scheduled for Ponderosa FSR area about eight kilometres south of Slocan and ten kilometres north of Winlaw.
The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting the Slocan Integral Forestry Cooperative, in conducting a prescribed burn covering up to 150-hectares within the Ponderosa FSR area to help reduce wildfire threats and restore ecosystem health and resiliency.
BC Wildfire Service said the burn site is about eight kilometres south of Slocan and ten kilometres north of Winlaw.
BC Wildfire Service said smoke may be visible from Slocan, Winlaw and surrounding communities, as well as motorists travelling along Highway 6.

The first of two burns will cover up to 150-hectares within the Ponderosa FSR area. The second, a 500-hectare controlled burn will take place three kilometers southeast of Winlaw.
