Dozens of climbers are assembling in Pakistan for a perilous attempt at what has been called one of mountaineering s last great prizes – a winter ascent of the world s second highest peak.
Around 55 climbers in rival teams are reported to be preparing to climb K2 and take on a mountain notorious for the numbers of climbers to have died on its slopes.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Council for Traditional Sports arranged traditional games at Shahallah Dita village in Margalla Hills to reintroduce them to the new generation.
Wrestling, traditional shooting, horse archery, horse dance and other sports were organised on the occasion.
Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, Senator Sitara Ayaz, Islamabad Council for Traditional Sports President Zeeshan Shah, General Secretary Abu Zafar Sadiq and a large number of people attended the event.
Senator Saif said steps should be taken to reintroduce these games so the new generation could see their past.

Cops foil ATM loot bid in Puri, five arrested Post News Network
Puri: Police arrested five members of an ATM looter gang while they were planning to loot an ATM kiosk in Puri in wee hours of Sunday.
The cops also seized cash, two motorcycles, gas cutter and mobile phones from their possession. The arrested youths have been identified as Rajesh Barik, Rabi Subidhu, Sahendra Sahu, Chandan Das and Madhav Mandal.
Acting on a tip-off, Baliapanda police conducted raids at various places on the outskirts of the city and arrested the youths when they were preparing a blueprint to loot an ATM. All the accused were produced in a court.
