Smithville school board incumbents faced off against their challengers in the May 1 election during a candidate forum held last week to discuss the candidates priorities and visions for the district over the next three years.
Candidates for Smithville school board Place 3 and Place 4 seats participated in the forum hosted by April Daniels, executive director of the Smithville Chamber of Commerce, on April 12.
In Place 3, incumbent Nancy Towry, who serves as board secretary, is being challenged by Michele Rutherford.
In Place 4, incumbent Alan Hemphill, who serves as board president, is being challenged by Trenton Helmcamp.
Members of the seven-person Smithville school board, who serve without pay, are elected to three-year terms.
