An increase in police training in bias, ethics and communication skills is recommended for all Arkansas law enforcement agencies to deescalate situations, according to the latest Task Force to Advance the State of Law Enforcement in Arkansas.
Fort Smith Police Chief Danny Baker is supportive of all 27 recommendations from the state report released last week and presented to Gov. Asa Hutchinson Dec. 17. Baker believes FSPD is already compliant with many of the new recommendations.
The recommendations were broken down into four categories that covered training policy and operations, accountability and discipline, community policing efforts and standards for recruitment.
