Fayetteville police investigating 2 murders on Slater Avenue

The Fayetteville Observer Police have identified a man who was found dead in a backyard on Slater Avenue early Tuesday and said a second man died after being shot. Officers were called to the house on the 1800 block of the street just before 12:15 a.m. Tuesday after shots were reportedly fired in the area, according to a statement released by the Fayetteville Police Department. Trevonte Dawaine Parker, 24, of the 1100 block of Armadillo Drive, died. He had multiple gunshot wounds, the statement said. Officers were still on the scene when they were notified that another shooting victim had arrived at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center by personal vehicle. Cortez Shadique Robinson, 20, of the 100 block of Hillview Avenue, had a gunshot wound to the chest and died while in surgery, according to the statement.

Fayetteville food bank holds meal distribution for 500 families days before Christmas

Hundreds of cars filled the parking lot waiting for the mass food distribution to begin. I ve been unemployed since the beginning of the pandemic. It s been really rough, said Latonya Dunlap, a Fayetteville mother of three. Dunlap was out the door by 6 a.m. to be first in line. She was evicted this year and said it s been a trying time for her family as two of her daughters have been in and out of the hospital. Cumberland County food bank reaching 40 percent more people in 2020, discuss potential COVID-19 relief package

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) The Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina, in Cumberland County, has kept busy in 2020, working to provide food for thousands in the Sandhills. People are really struggling, and it s people you ve never seen before coming to a pantry, said Food Bank Director David Griffin. Griffin told ABC11 their nonprofit has helped 40 percent more people this year. It s been a challenge, but a challenge that we welcome, because that s a part of our mission. With the increase in demand, the food bank has needed to heavily rely on their current funds and the countless generous donors who have helped them distribute food across the southeast region.
