Sgt. Darren Kakuno This past week, May 3 through May 9, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 112 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to. Vehicle B&E spree on May 3 in Invermere On Monday, May 3, three residents in the Invermere area reported waking to find someone had rummaged through their vehicles. Stolen from a vehicle parked on Ridge Drive was a set of golf clubs. A vehicle parked on 10 th Avenue had a welding helmet stolen from it and three vehicles on 12 th Avenue were also rummaged through. Vehicle stolen from Windermere recovered in Calgary

The highways, while miles apart, are prone to difficult winter driving conditions and sudden road closures, the Ministry of Citizen’s Service says. “We can’t change the weather, but we can make strategic investments to help expand highway cellular service in B.C. With these latest projects, we are on track to more than triple our target to increase highway cellular coverage,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Citizens’ Services.

Highway 97, including Pine Pass.   According to Lisa Beare, Minister of Citizens’ Services, Highway 97 often has difficult driving conditions, is prone to sudden road closures and has large gaps without cell service.  “We can’t change the weather, but we can make strategic investments to help expand highway cellular service in B.C. With these latest projects, we are on track to more than triple our target to increase highway cellular coverage, making our highways safer than ever before.”  The new project will fill in cellular gaps along 68 kilometres of Highway 97 between Chetwynd and the Highway 39 junction. This includes Pine Pass, which is prone to avalanches and sparsely populated. Cellular service will also be made available at the West Pine rest area and Powder King Mountain Resort.

Posted: May 3, 2021 Valley vaccination clinic ongoing until May 7 Interior Health is this morning reminding residents of a COVID-19 vaccination clinic ongoing at the Invermere Catholic Church. The clinic is running from today (May 3) until May 7 for all residents 18 and over who have a Columbia Valley postal code , from south of Canal Flats up to Spillimacheen (area shown above). Appointments are required. Residents of these communities may register for their vaccine appointment at community specific clinics by calling 1-833-838-2323 between 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., MDT, seven days a week or by registering online with their Personal Health Number HERE.
