Passerby alerts residents of home fire in Streator

June 29, 2021 Studstill Media Photo STREATOR – A person passing by a home in Streator noticed smoke coming from a window, and alerted those inside of a fire on Tuesday. The Streator Fire Department say they were called to the 300 block of Goulding Street around 1:45 PM where the found smoke coming from the gable of the single story home. Crews quickly had the fire under control, and an investigation determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature. No injuries were reported and the damage to the home wasn’t extensive. Streator Fire Department receives recognition for cardiac arrest saves

STREATOR – The city of Streator achieved three times the national average for cardiac arrest resuscitations in 2020. The Streator Fire Department received a plaque of honor from Advanced Medical Transport for their increased cardiac arrest saves last year. According to AMT officials, the Streator Fire Department increased their rate through cardiac arrest resuscitation equipment, one of the first cities to use the new devices in the region. In 2020 the city cared for 20 people who suffered cardiac arrests, with five being successful and five able to leave the hospital. The national average of successes is 8.5% and Streator performed three times the rate.

No injuries after oven fire in Streator

December 23, 2020 Photo Streator Fire Department STREATOR – No injuries were reported after an oven fire Wednesday in Streator. Around 3:30 PM the Streator Fire Department were called to the 700 block of South Monroe Street. All residents of the single story home had evacuated the structure, and it took crews about 5 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. Authorities say the kitchen suffered considerable heat and smoke damage. The rest of the home suffered moderate smoke damage. Local Weather
