By Brad Waters Comments Victorian apprentice Melissa Julius will fight a six-week suspension she picked up in bizarre circumstances in South Australia on Saturday. SA stewards handed Julius the harsh penalty after finding she failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to get the best possible placing for the $51 chance Azzureous in a 1600m race at Murray Bridge. Julius assessed she had run out of room on the Peter Blanch-trained Azzureous late in the race. She stopped pushing the four-year-old to the line in the last 50m.

Metcalfe named executive director, CEO of Morven Park

Stacey Metcalfe, a prominent local business and nonprofit leader, was named the new head of Morven Park, a 1,000-acre park on the north side of Leesburg. Metcalfe will serve as executive director of the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation and CEO of Morven Park. She will begin in her new position on Jan. 11. The Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation owns and operates the park, a popular destination that includes a historic house museum, walking and hiking trails, formal boxwood gardens and renowned equestrian center. “Morven Park contributes to the overall health of our community in countless ways,” Metcalfe said Thursday in a prepared statement. “The Park provides free civics lessons to our schools, boosts equestrian sport in the county, serves as a unique tourist destination, and is the perfect ‘green space’ for anyone looking to get outside and explore, to exercise, or even just relax in nature.
