Detectives have confirmed a man who died after he was found seriously injured in a burning house was murdered.
John Dalziel, 47, was discovered after a fire at a property in Whites Bridge Avenue in Paisley, Renfrewshire, at about 22:05 on Thursday.
Mr Dalziel was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but died a short time later.
Officers said a number of people were in the area at the time.
Det Ch Insp Stuart Grainger, of the Major Investigation Team, said: We are working to establish the full circumstances of what happened and our thoughts are very much with the family of Mr Dalziel at this difficult time for them.

John Dalziel lost his life in hospital after a blaze in Paisley A MAN who died in hospital after being seriously injured in a house fire has been named. John Dalziel lost his life yesterday following the blaze on Paisley s Whites Bridge Avenue at around 10pm. He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, in Glasgow, but died a short time later. Now, detectives have confirmed they are treating the 47-year-old s death as murder. They are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Renfrewshire area at the time and believe some locals may even have tried to save him from the inferno.

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a Paisley man.
Man charged in connection with death of Jacqueline Grant A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Jacqueline Grant. The 46-year-old is set to appear at Glasgow Sherriff Court tomorrow and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal. The 54-year-old s body was found at her flat on Cumlodden Drive in Maryhill on Tuesday April 6 following a brutal attack. Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Grainger, Police Scotland s Major Investigation Team, said: I would like to thank the public for their assistance throughout our enquiry. Officers continue to support Jacqueline s family, who are still understandably devastated by her death.
