Tele-Talk question: Do you think New Hampshire adequately protects the polls from voter fraud?

MWV Republican Committee Chairman Steven Steiner recently complained about voter fraud, saying there was “weirdness” with the turnout in New Hampshire, since Republicans swept state-level elections but failed to unseat the congressional delegation or give a majority vote to President Trump. But N.H. Secretary of State Bill Gardner told the Sun, “I think we should all be proud of the job New Hampshire does with its elections.” Gardner said safeguards in place to prevent voter fraud include having to provide a picture ID or proof of residence, and failing that, having the election moderator photograph voters at the polls and signing an affidavit. “We’re the only state in the country that has that,” Gardner said. In addition, supervisors of the checklist oversee voter rolls in each town.

Valley Republicans say they're serious about voter fraud

MWV Republicans’ chairman Steve Steiner says he’s the editor and publisher. One letter was from MWV Republicans’ vice chair John Hartman of Eaton. Titled, “Local Republican Group Gets Serious about Voter Fraud, it was the same letter Hartman submitted to the Sun, which ran it July 1. In the letter, Hartman states that Ed Naile of the New Hampshire Coalition of Taxpayers recently spoke about voter fraud, a topic he said the local group is very concerned about. Hartman states that the MWVRC “has collected voter lists from all valley towns now as well as state historical voting lists on these towns and has a committee using this database to contact voters and spot illegal voting.”

Conway voters reject short-term rental regs

Now the question is, what’s next? Does the defeat of the short-term regulations mean the town will be mailing out cease-and-desist orders tomorrow to the 500-odd rental properties in Conway? The short answer is no. Minutes after the results were announced, Selectman John Colbath said: “We do not have the information to decide what to do next.” Added Selectman Mary Carey Seavey: “I want to hear what town attorney Peter Malia has to say. If we are going to issue cease and desists, it has to be orderly.” Colbath said he believes many people voted against the regulations because they thought within a month there would be properties for lower-income people to buy. “The reality is that’s not going to happen,” he said.

Bradley aims high with gun bill

The bill is SB 154. On April 1, Senate Republicans passed it 14-10. If there are executive orders issued from President Biden restricting an individual s ability to keep and bear arms, this bill would make it clear that the state of New Hampshire would not enforce any such orders issued after Jan. 20, 2021, Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) said in a press release issued by Senate Republicans. SB 154 will protect the rights of New Hampshire citizens to defend themselves and their loved ones, the release said. New Hampshire is among the safest states in America because we have effective law enforcement and allow people to exercise their constitutional rights under the Second Amendment.
