At any other point in the season, the Arizona Coyotes getting three out of four points against the Vegas Golden Knights would have been considered a win. But, with the St. Louis Blues getting a point last night in an overtime loss, it feels like it isn’t going to be enough.
Unlike Friday, the Coyotes did not have a good start to the game. Vegas looked like a completely different team to start the game, and the Coyotes didn’t have much to counter them.
Vegas took the first penalty of the game 2:02 into the first period when Reilly Smith was caught hooking Nick Schmaltz. The Coyotes failed to register a single shot on goal during the power play, and like we have seen so many times this season, Vegas had all the momentum after a successful kill.
Game Preview
This past Monday’s game may have been the final nail in the coffin for the Arizona Coyotes’ season. There are still games to be played, so we can’t say that definitively, but the odds are against them.
The St. Louis Blues currently have one more point than the Coyotes, despite playing in three fewer games. They are 5-5-0 in the last ten games, compared to the Coyotes, who are 2-8-0. At this point, things aren’t looking good for the Desert Dogs.
But the Coyotes still have a chance, and while they can’t do anything about the Blues, they are in control of their play. And that starts tonight against the San Jose Sharks.
Game Recap
Last night was one of the important games for the Arizona Coyotes. They have fewer than ten games remaining in the regular season, and the Blues had just overtaken them for the final playoff spot earlier in the day.
And in what may be the worst possible start to an important game, a miscommunication between Darcy Kuemper and Jason Demers led to an early goal.
The San Jose Sharks’ Noah Gregor picking up the puck behind the goal line and shoot it at an out-of-position Kuemper. The puck went in, and the Sharks had a 1-0 lead 17 seconds into the game.
Game Preview
The Arizona Coyotes needed a win this past Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings. They had just dropped their last two against the Minnesota Wild and seven of their previous eight games, moving them out of a playoff spot.
We have seen this situation before this season. The Coyotes have all the motivation in the world to play well, only to drop the important game against a team they should beat.
But that didn’t happen on Saturday. Instead, the Coyotes had a dominant game against the Kings, shutting them out and getting the 4-0 victory.
Arizona played a dominant game against the Kings, controlling play for most of the game. They limited Los Angeles’ chances with solid defensive and neutral zone play, had a commanding forecheck, and got great goaltending from Darcy Kuemper. They just need to find a way to do it more consistently.
Game Preview
Compared to the St. Louis Blues, the Arizona Coyotes have a much easier schedule as we approach the end of the season. The Coyotes will play seven of their final nine games against teams below them in the standings, unlike the Blues will only play three of their remaining twelve games against teams below them.
But, the easy schedule won’t mean much if they can’t win the games. And that starts tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Coyotes played a good game on Wednesday, other than their inability to score. They controlled the pace of the game, did a good job in the offensive zone, and limited the Wild’s chances. If the Coyotes can do that again, and actually convert on their opportunities, they have a good chance of winning tonight’s game.
