Zurich Community Trust s generosity helps community foundation keep voluntary groups working

VOLUNTARY groups tackling the fallout from the pandemic have been helped by a £25,000 handout. The Zurich Community Trust has made a second donation to Wiltshire Community Foundation’s Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund, which has awarded more than £1 million through more than 200 grants to groups across the county. The Swindon insurance giant donated the same amount through its trust last April and the community foundation’s joint chief executive Fiona Oliver said its support has been vital in helping voluntary groups respond to demand from people impacted by the crisis. “We are very thankful for this support from Zurich, who have always shown huge generosity and awareness of the needs of the community,” she said. “We have seen many groups struggling to keep going after having to overcome so many challenges. They are seeing huge spikes in demand at same time as losing vital revenue and eating into their reserves.

Swindon firm Openwork s fundraising arm raised more than £20 million for charity

THE charitable arm of a Swindon-based investment network is celebrating four decades of fundraising which has helped more than 476,000 vulnerable people with donations of £20.8 million. The Openwork Foundation was originally created in 1981 as part of Zurich Community Trust and achieved independent charitable status in 2019. It organises the fundraising and community projects undertaken by the staff and advisers at Openwork, which is one of the UK’s largest and longest-established financial advice and investment networks. The money raised includes funds matched by the business to create a 50 per cent boost to donations and allowed the foundation to make more than 1,500 grants to charities across the UK and overseas which support vulnerable children and young adults.

Robert Buckland: Tell me your views on crime in your area

It is National Apprenticeship Week, and I am calling for employers of all sizes here in Swindon to apply for generous Government cash incentives to help them take on apprentices. Apprenticeships are a great way to get ahead in a wide range of exciting industries and they also play a vital role in delivering the skills that employers and the economy will need in order to recover after the Covid-19 pandemic. Through the Government’s Plan For Jobs, we have taken unprecedented steps to protect, support and create jobs, including driving more high-quality apprenticeship opportunities to help get our economy moving.
