Dr Farhat Mirza, a well known retired professor of Forensic Medicine, of Jinnah Sindh Medical University, has been killed in a fire at home in Mohammad Ali Housing Society, Karachi.Five people died in the fire of smoke inhalation. The other victims were identified as Sabiha, Shaista, Akbar and Sultan. Sabiha was a retired judge. According to preliminary investigations, one of the victims was a retired medical superintendent of Sindh Government Hospital, Liaquatabad.A short circuit is said to be the cause of the fire. PESHAWAR: The Governor Inspection Team (GIT) has detected serious irregularities in Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal, Upper Dir.
Charges of nepotism and favoritism against the incumbent vice-chancellor have proved and disciplinary action is recommended against him. The GIT has submitted its report to the governor, who is also the varsity chancellor.
The inspection report reveals that the VC had appointed close relatives to different posts, including his daughter and nephew, in violation of merit.
A daily wager deputy director security/admin was illegally assigned five different additional portfolios with extra allowances. Director Internal Audit was assigned the responsibilities of treasurer. The legal advisor of the university was found to be superintendent store.

Srinagar, India, Feb 26 (efe-epa).- Shaista, a 13-year-old border resident, has bittersweet feelings about India and Pakistan renewing their pledge to a ceasefire along their disputed boundary in Kashmir.
Had the two nuclear rivals reaffirmed their commitment to stop guns roaring three months ago, her mother, Farooqa Banu, would have been alive to celebrate the new border truce, Shaista said.
Banu, a mother of five, was killed after a mortar shell landed on their house during a cross-border firing exchange in north Kashmir’s Uri sector in November 2020.
“I am happy as well as sad at the same time,” Shaista told EFE over the phone.
