Elk Island Public Schools is once again disheartened that it has been left off the provincial government’s list of 14 new school capital projects in Alberta, which was announced on Wednesday.
“It goes without saying that we are extremely disappointed a replacement school for Sherwood Heights Junior High, Elk Island Public Schools’ number one priority, did not make the Government of Alberta’s list of school capital projects again,” EIPS board chair Trina Boymook said in a release after the announcement was made. “Sherwood Heights Junior High has been on the division’s capital project list for 10 years, progressing from a modernization to a replacement school as the facility aged and critical systems deteriorated further. We recognize there is a need for infrastructure in many jurisdictions but in this case, the situation is urgent.”
