Wayne County Board Chairman Bruce Reeves says the board will not vote on naming an Interim Sheriff at its meeting tonight. He says the board must first formally declare a vacancy for the position, and letters will then be sent to the Republican and Democratic Party Chairs. The board is expected to hold a special session in the coming days to bring the matter to a vote. The North Wayne School Board held a special session last night to vote on following the state mask mandate for schools. The board voted 7-0 in favor of keeping masking optional for the year, both indoors and on buses. North Wayne is the second board in the Wayne/Edwards County area to have such a vote, joining Edwards County. Fairfield Police say 30-year-old James Wood and 24-year-old Amanda Powell were cited after two separate accidents Tuesday. Wood reportedly struck a vehicle driven by 63-year-old Michael McQuire after failing to stop at an intersection, and Powell reportedly struck a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Car
26-year-old Kendall L. Einhorn was taken to Clay County Hospital after a single-vehicle accident near Enterprise yesterday morning. Wayne County deputies say he was northbound on Enterprise Road, ramped off a ditch embankment, went airborne over a county roadway, and came to rest after striking another embankment. A tow truck was called to the scene, and the vehicle sustained over $1,500 damage.
The Grayville City Council met last night and discussed a ban on planting trees, shrubbery, or other flora in public right-of-ways. Some members felt small ornamentals could be fine, but others said things planted today could be problems tomorrow. The council will move forward with developing the language for the ordinance before holding any vote.
