Michigan officials used virus relief money for bonuses David Matthews
A group of elected officials in Michigan gave themselves bonuses with money that was earmarked for COVID-19 relief.
The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners voted last week to give “hazard pay” to dozens of county employees, including $2,000 for cleaning staff.
However, the county commissioners also extended the “hazard pay” bonuses to themselves between $25,000 and $5,000.
The commissioners all of whom are Republicans are paid $10,000 a year and receive a stipend for meetings for the part-time job. © Shutterstock Wealth
Other elected county officials also received payments, including Sheriff Brian BeGole, who got $25,000, and prosecutor Scott Koerner, who received $12,500.
