Three purported members of the Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crips gang were indicted on charges of murder and attempted murder Wednesday, federal officials said.
Elijah Williams, aka “Lil Smith,” 21; Jason Franklin, aka “Freak,” aka “OG Freak,” 37; and Tre Byrd, aka “Bands,” aka “G Bandz,” 20 all of Newark were charged by indictment with Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said.
Williams is accused of shooting four individuals and hitting two in Newark on Sept. 25, 2018, authorities said. Both victims survived the attack.
Then, on March 20, 2019, Williams shot and killed another victim with help from Franklin and Byrd in Irvington, according to court documents.
Gunman arrested after shooting from sunroof, car chase near N.J. park, sheriff says

Essex County sheriff’s officers arrested a gunman after they spotted him shooting at another car through a sunroof during a high-speed chase near a park, officials said Wednesday.
Officers were patrolling near the entrance to Irvington Park Tuesday night when a black Dodge Charger and silver Nissan Altima sped by in a chase, according to Sheriff Armando Fontoura.
“Shortly after our officers observed the high speed chase, they witnessed shots being fired from the sunroof of the silver Nissan Altima,” Fontoura said. “In a scene that seemed directly out of the Old West, the Altima pulled up directly behind the Charger before they began to fire several shots from the top window of the vehicle.”
Ricky Terrell pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm
An Essex County, New Jersey, man admitted possessing a handgun in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Ricky Terrell, 24, of Newark, pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Court Judge John Michael Vazquez to an information charging him with one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, specifically, the possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine.
According to U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito and documents filed in this case and statements made in court Stephen Crane Village is a public housing complex in Newark, where law enforcement officers investigated individuals who controlled an open-air drug market.
