Will the TMC Be Badly Hit by Desertions to the BJP?
Several of the leaders who have jumped ship had seen their popularity and influence wane it recent times.

Kolkata: On Saturday (December 19), while welcoming Suvendu Adhikari, a former Trinamool Congress (TMC) heavyweight, into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a rally in West Midnapore district, Union home minister Amit Shah said that a string of desertions henceforth would leave Mamata Banerjee all alone by the time the 2021 assembly elections take place.
The TMC reacted immediately, saying that the desertions of a few leaders did not matter to the party because it depended on workers and support from the masses, who look only up to Mamata and nobody else.

TMC heavyweight Shubhendu Adhikari joined the BJP alon with nine MLAs, an MP and at least six dozen key district TMC office-bearers in the presence of Amit Shah.
Kolkata: Tearing into the “dynastic politics” of West Bengal’s ruling Trinamul Congress, Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday claimed chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who he claimed was planning to make her MP nephew Abhishek Banerjee the next CM, would soon find herself “isolated” ahead of next year’s Assembly elections. He also claimed that the BJP would win 200 out of the state’s total 294 seats in the election.

Kolkata: After a long drawn period of public dissatisfaction with the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, former MLA and heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Present were a galaxy of BJP leaders, ranging from MLAs and MPs to Union home minister Amit Shah.
