(AP) Repairs to a dam in the mountains of Vermont have prompted the Department of Fish and Wildlife to change its trout stocking plan for this spring, officials said. The reservoir was slated to be stocked this month with 1,350 yearling brook trout averaging nine inches and 450 two-year old “Trophy Brook Trout” averaging 13-inches in length. Instead, the trout will instead be stocked in Lefferts Pond in Chittenden, Smith Pond in Pittsford, Silver Lake in Leicester and Prentiss Pond in Dorset. During the repairs to the Goshen Dam, the water level in the reservoir is being lowered to a maximum depth to about 1 feet (30.48 centimeters) with a surface area of approximately 1.5 acres (0.61 hectares).

(Lorraine Swanson/Patch) EVERGREEN PARK, IL Evergreen Park s normally uneventful mayoral elections suddenly got more interesting after Mayor James Sexton announced his retirement in December after 20 years. Sexton s Good Government/United Homeowners slate continues with three trustee seats up for renewal in a contested race between five candidates, although one challenger appears to have ghosted the campaign trail. The village is poised to elect its first female mayor, with State Rep./Village Trustee Kelly Burke and resident Shawn Good running to fill the departing mayor s seat. Burke has represented the the 36th District in the Illinois House since 2010. She successfully ran for Evergreen Park village trustee in 2019. If elected mayor, she plans to hold dual offices, which is allowed under the Illinois Constitution. Burke says she will give up her private law practice.

RUTLAND â With the 2021 winter ice fishing season firmly underway, and Free Fishing Day coming up on Saturday, January 30, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department (VTFW) announced it has created an online Virtual Ice Fishing Festival to help new anglers learn about ice fishing equipment, gear, and techniques. For the past seven years, VTFW has hosted an in-person ice fishing festival on Free Fishing Day to introduce new anglers to the activity. Held on a different frozen lake each year, participants would gather to learn skills such as ice safety, knot tying, using ice fishing rods and tip-ups, fish identification, and even fish cleaning and cooking.
