As local children count down the final days of classes, Marietta College’s Education Department is busy creating and delivering Summer Reading Adventure Packs to partner elementary schools to help get books and reading activities into the hands of certain students before they leave for summer break.
The 300 packs will be given to children whose principals and teachers think may need extra literacy support.
“Marietta College is excited to support surrounding partnership schools with literature and activities within our summer book packs,” said Dr. Amanda Rider, Assistant Professor of Education. “The packs are intended to further engage students in literature over the summer, so they are better prepared for next fall.”
Ask a person about their favorite childhood book, and chances are theyâll be able to name countless titles off the top of their head. Childrenâs books leave an indelible mark on our brains from an early age with storylines and lessons that we still carry with us today. If youâre looking for a story whose mark will last far longer than storytime, look no further. Weâve put together a list of ten extraordinary childrenâs books that go above and beyond to inspire their young readers. Exploring an array of concepts from courage to character virtues, these books instill real-world lessons into the minds of their readers and help encourage future generations to put their best foot forward.

MOSCOW, ID Idaho author Annette Bay Pimentel recently received notification her children s book, All the Way to the Top: How One Girl s Fight for Americans with Disabilities Changed Everything was awarded the 2021 Schneider Family Book Award. The awards committee had our publisher arrange a Zoom call to break the news to us.
