GATLINBURG â A new retaining wall at Mynatt Park is among a number of items that are being added to the ADA accessibility project.
The City Commission approved a $140,975 change order from Whaley Construction that included the replacement of an existing stone wall next to the basketball courts.
âUnfortunately since this project began in 2018 that wall has deteriorated significantly with large chunks of concrete falling out between the boulders,â said Parks and Recreation Director Laurence Evans.
Upcoming work at the park included work on the sidewalk above, which would have damaged it further.
âWe are asking to remove that wall and put in place a tiered cast-in-place wall which will also kind of serve as a spectator place for the basketball. It will look a lot better,â Evans said.
âAs you are aware traffic volumes have been unprecedented in Gatlinburg and Sevier County since the economic reopening last Summer. If approved, this study would seek to make recommendations on how better to move vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the downtown area,â Butler said.
âAlso as part of the study, traffic projections for 10 years in the future will also be done to help develop long-term recommendations. The proposed study is in the amount of $91,500.â
The city will also consider change orders involving the Mynatt Park ADA Accessibility Project.
A change order of $140,975 by Whaley Construction is focused on the installation of a retaining wall at the basketball court, installation of handrails with integrated LED lighting, and replacement of curbing in parking lots.
