AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) â The Town of Amherst is one step closer from transforming the old Westwood Country Club into Amherst Central Park.
During Monday s town board meeting the town laid out and approved their basic understanding agreement with Mensch Capital Partners and their roll in acquiring the neighboring land north of Maple Road, in return for Westwood.
Here are the details of that agreement:

Amherst took another step toward a vast Central Park Monday evening, with unanimous approval by the Town Board of terms for a deal with the owner of what was Westwood Country Club.
There seemingly weren’t many supporters of the plan attending the virtual meeting, perhaps because the details unveiled by Supervisor Brian Kulpa came out not long before the session. Big issues already include protests by golfers who don’t want to give up Audubon golf course with 18-holes and supporters of girls’ softball who have already seen some playing fields dug up.
Kulpa election opponent Jay DiPasquale blasted the initial agreement.
Amherst Takes Another Step Towards New Park
Yesterday the Amherst Town Board voted unanimously to purchase the old Westwood Country Club and turn it into a new park.
According to WGRZ, the purchase will give the Town of Amherst 170 acres of land that will be converted into a new park. The proposal for the park will call for the park to also include an indoor field house. We have a rare opportunity to acquire 170 acres of new green park space in the middle of the Town of Amherst and that s an incredible feeling said Town of Amherst Supervisor Brian Kulpa after Monday s board meeting.
