New Principal Chosen For Westfield's Wilson School

WESTFIELD, NJ The Westfield Board of Education unanimously approved, at its virtual meeting Tuesday, the appointment of Crystal Marsh as principal of Wilson Elementary School effective Aug. 1. She will succeed Joseph Malanga, who is retiring on July 31.
Marsh will be leaving her current post at Edison Intermediate School, where she has been serving as assistant principal since 2017.
A graduate of Columbia University Teachers College, where she received a Master of Education degree in Public School Building Leadership, Marsh also earned a Master of Science degree in Adolescent Education from Pace University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in the Biological Basis of Behavior. ....

Throughout the month of April, Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) students competed against other career and technical education students from around the state, in both virtual and in-person events, as part of the 2021 New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships. Out of the 73 students from SCVTHS who competed, 54 received medals including 25 gold. The gold medal winners are now eligible to test their skills at the upcoming, virtually held, SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) in June.  During the National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), more than 6,000 career and technical education students will showcase their talents and compete in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields.  All contests are run with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations. The test competencies are set by industry.  ....

Only about one-third of New Jersey schools are fully in-person as of this week, as Gov. Phil Murphy pushes all of the state’s schools to reopen and sharply criticized the 15 districts that have remained totally virtual.
As of May 4, 450 school districts were hybrid, 15 were remote and 298 were fully in-person the sixth week in a row the number of in-person districts increased. Forty-eight districts have different educational formats for different schools. ....
