The growing statistics are one thing, she said but in tight-knit communities, knowing the people and the families behind those numbers is entirely another. Our communities are so small that one death impacts so many more people, because we re so interrelated and support one another so much, she said.

Minnesota officials on Friday reported another 65 COVID-19 deaths, continuing an already dreadful December 1,130 deaths posted in the first 18 days of the month, atop more than 1,100 recorded in November.
The grim numbers were buoyed somewhat by the continued easing of new daily caseloads and hospital admissions, which are retreating from their late November, early December highs.
The Health Department posted 2,737 newly confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases, part of a week of relatively moderate counts.
It said 1,144 people remain in the hospital with COVID-19 as of Thursday, with 270 needing intensive care. While that’s still fairly high, the seven-day trend for new hospital admissions has receded to levels not seen since early November.
Around dawn on Tuesday, Paul Krogh and his colleagues at North Memorial Health greeted an important package at their Minneapolis hospital’s loading dock: A single box containing 975 doses of the game-changing Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, ready to be given to hundreds of the hospital’s front-line workers.
“Our first doses are here,” Krogh, the hospital’s pharmacy services director, said as hospital staff cheered. “It’s an exciting time.”
With so much hope riding on the creation and approval of vaccines meant to halt the spread of COVID-19, hospital officials say watching that first batch of shots arrive on their doorsteps has been a huge relief.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was administered to 10 health care workers at White Earth Health Center, near Ogema, Minn., Tuesday with additional vaccinations occurring throughout the week to more staff members until the center s initial allotment of 120 doses is completed.
