Before “Jaws” with its depiction of a giant, vengeful, man-eating creature of the deep; before Shark Week, Discovery Channels’ eight-day ode to all things sharks; and well before the over-the-top gratuitous sci-fi series “Sharknado” films, there was, just off the coast of North Carolina, “shark survey.”
Not as glamorous, perhaps, as the mindless entertainment evoked from creative minds the likes of Steven Spielberg, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Institute of Marine Sciences in Morehead City has achieved in the research world a treasure trove of data about shark species caught off the coastal waters of North Carolina.

More evidence of political gain
Our governor has once again distorted an issue for political gain. He has declared a State of Emergency in response to the Colonial Pipeline shut down. Most of Florida s fuel is delivered via ship, and the pipeline has little to do with fuel shortages. But, he has stated the federal government is negligent in taking care of Floridians, and he has made the panic buying of fuel even worse.
Just as he backed legislation to limit the ability of citizens to protest peacefully and allow violent actions against those protesters if someone feels threatened . Just as he wants to limit our ability to vote, in spite of his declarations a few months ago that Florida was the model of how to run a secure election.
