Beamer rounds out staff, introduces coordinators to media

New South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer has finally completed his staff, naming former Western Kentucky defensive coordinator Clayton White to the same post and hiring Marshall’s Luke Day as strength and conditioning coach, with a rumored addition at cornerbacks coach as well.
White, who’s been considered an up-and-coming candidate, had a four-year tenure with the Hilltoppers and was a Frank Broyles finalist the award given to the best assistant in college football in 2017, 2019, and 2020. This past season, WKU’s defense finished 28th in total defense, including eighth nationally in passing defense, allowing just 177.3 yards per game. The Hilltoppers were also third with 68 passes defended, and scored three defensive touchdowns. Additionally, White is from North Carolina, and so presumably has a lot of ties to the area.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announces Steve Sarkisian, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterback coach at Alabama, as the winner of the 25th annual Broyles Award. Coach Sarkisian was selected from a group of five finalists by a selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, broadcasters, and a committee representing the FWAA.
Other 2020 Broyles Award finalists included BYU Offensive Coordinator Jeff Grimes, Cincinnati Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach Marcus Freeman, Indiana Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach Kane Wommack and Northwestern Defensive Coordinator Mike Hankwitz.
The Broyles Award honors college football’s top assistant coach. The award was established in 1996 to recognize legendary head football coach Frank Broyles. Coach Broyles had a track record of producing some of the most successful assistant coaches in college football history.
