Downtown goes to the dogs, this week in Abilene
In celebration of the dog days of summer, the Center for Contemporary Arts will conduct the annual DogWalk edition of ArtWalk from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in downtown Abilene.
Leashed dogs will be welcome to join in for costume and trick contests, paw print painting and more, or to cool off in a swimming pool.

Dachshund races
Rescue the Animals SPCA will present the annual Dachshund Races and Rescued Dog Reunion on July 15 at the Festival Gardens at Nelson Park, with gates opening at 5 p.m.
AirFest takes to the skies, this week in Abilene
After missing last year due to the pandemic, the annual Big Country AirFest will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Abilene Regional Airport.
The theme will be The Golden Age of Bombers, featuring the B-25 Devil Dog and other vintage and experimental aircraft.
Admission is free, and masks are required. Entry will be at the west gate, with parking available on Runway 4/22. For information, go to bigcountryairfest.org.
Western Heritage
The annual Western Heritage Classic will begin with ranch horse competition at 7 a.m. Thursday at the Taylor County Expo Center, with competitions and trade shows continuing through Saturday.
