Eagle River Fire Protection District / Special to the Daily
This news could be old by the time you read it, but: River-watchers aren’t expecting much in the way of high water this spring on Tuesday, the Vail Rec District canceled its whitewater race due to low flows.
Below-average snowpack, combined with a cool, moist period in this stretch of May, has eased runoff into local creeks and rivers. All that could change with torrential rain, or a sustained warm spell could swell local streams. For now, though, streamflows up and down the valley are well below 30-year medians.
That doesn’t bode well for summer. Virtually all of Colorado’s Western Slope is in either “extreme” or “exceptional” drought
The Vail Recreation District’s Vail Village Easter Egg Hunt will take place today. The free event requires no registration and is for ages 2 to 10 and their families.
Attendees should arrive at the Vail Rec District’s booth next to the Covered Bridge in Vail Village between 10 and 10:45 a.m. to get your Easter Egg Hunt passport and first clue. From there, you will follow clues throughout Vail Village, completing the passport and finishing at the final destination where a prize awaits.
The Easter bunny will also be in Vaill Village available for pictures, and special eggs will be hidden along the route that can be redeemed for special prizes.

The Residency features Martin Sexton at Vilar
Martin Sexton returns to the Vilar Performing Arts Center as part of the new concert series called The Residency. Sexton will play multiple shows on Saturday and Sunday to a limited-capacity audience in the theater, which is situated under the ice rink at Beaver Creek Village.
Sexton is no stranger to the Vilar Performing Arts Center and made a stop here last year. He’s played big venues like The Fillmore and Carnegie Hall but the Syracuse, NY native never forgets his roots and his days playing in the streets and subway stations of Boston back in the 1990s.
