There is no escaping it road work season is back. Here are some key local projects to know about so you can with any luck avoid traffic jams.
Cook County• Reconstructing and improving Lake-Cook Road between Raupp Boulevard and Hasting Lane in Buffalo Grove and Wheeling. Related work this year includes rebuilding southbound lanes of Buffalo Grove Road and Route 83 and completing work on Weiland Road from Route 83 to Woodstone Drive.
• Resurfacing Ballard Road from Rand Road in Des Plaines to Greenwood Road in Niles.
• Resurfacing Route 83 from Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village to Golf Road in Mount Prospect.

After two decades in the making, a $22 million project to widen Quentin Road between Kildeer and Lake Zurich is in the books.
Landscaping, cleanup and minor work will be completed in spring, but more than two years of construction on Quentin from White Pine Road near Route 12 to Route 22 is complete.
All five lanes were opened in late November, ending rush-hour traffic snags on the key stretch in southwestern Lake County.
“They obviously touch the door handles when they walk into the building. People are grouping together in the main lobby,” said Renee Redman.
Jeff Nianick owns a third-party trucking company that also rents space in the building. He said some of his employees have chosen to work from home.
“Because so many people are coming and going for COVID testing, the office is on pins and needles and very nervous, frankly,” Nianick said.
BG Medical Center confirmed it is offering testing for the virus, but told NBC 5 that people are not congregating in the lobby.
Medical director Dr. Harry Keith Monroe said the provider is following CDC, State of Illinois and Lake County guidelines.
