A section of land, with two separate but connected histories, lies along the Assiniboine River west of 18th Street in Brandon.
The first is not a happy history. From 1895 to 1971, those that ran the Brandon Residential School took Indigenous children from their home communities in an attempt to assimilate them into colonial society established by European settlers.

If there was any doubt left that the Vancouver Canucks were taking a huge risk by leaving goalie coach Ian Clark unsigned, there isn’t anymore.
Like head coach Travis Green, Clark is without a contract beyond this season, and will soon be able to go to the highest bidder. As one of the most well-regarded goaltending coaches in the NHL, there shouldn’t be a shortage of teams lined up for his services.
Clark returned to Vancouver in 2018, following seven years as the goaltending coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky won two Vezina Trophies under his watch in Columbus, and promptly saw his numbers drop after Clark left the Blue Jackets.

It s been exactly one week since Frank Vatrano lifted his arms up into the air victoriously.
Following their 5-4 overtime win over the Blackhawks on Jan. 19, the Panthers were forced to endure an extended hiatus from competitive action after COVID-19 safety protocols in Carolina kicked in and pushed their two-game series against the Hurricanes back to later in the season.
Now finally preparing to get back to work, Vatrano is confident the Panthers (2-0-0) can pick up right where they left off after that big win despite the week-long break as they prepare to kick off a four-game road swing against the Blue Jackets (2-2-2) at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday night.
