Ryde Town Council Moves Closer To Harbour Purchase
By Louise Hill LDR
‘A new beginning’ is coming for Ryde Harbour as Ryde Town Council moves closer to purchasing and investing in the waterfront site.
Laid out in its business case to the Isle of Wight Council, the town council plans to ‘invest substantially’ in the 150-berth harbour over the next three years.
It will improve facilities, the harbour offer and build a new Harbour Master’s office on the site, which will include two parcels of land next to the harbour.
Speaking after the meeting, Ryde Town Council s Cllr Phil Jordan, who helped lead negotiations, said it was a new beginning for the harbour and he is very excited about the town council s plans to make it a viable and attractive asset to Ryde. He said: I’m really pleased with the outcome and it has been worth all the work involved by myself and staff at Ryde Town Council to bring this matter to a successful conclusion. Cllr Jordan also thanked all the staff at the Isle of Wight Council and Ryde Town Council who helped deliver the arrangement which will help breathe new life into it.

Future Of Ryde And Ventnor Harbours To Go Before Councillors
By Oliver Dyer
Options for the future ownership and management of Ryde and Ventnor Harbours will go before Cabinet.
One of the options includes the possible sale of Ryde Harbour to Ryde Town Council.
The future of the harbours was previously discussed in published delegated papers in 2018 and 2019, with a key objective that they should be operated at nil net cost to the Isle of Wight Council. A marketing exercise for their future was also proposed.
