reversing course and voting to bring the bill back Tuesday for more debate.
House Bill 701, the legislation to implement recreational marijuana, emerged from three bills the House sent the upper chamber at the beginning of April. It s one of the remaining major pieces still left to finalize in what s expected to be the last week of the legislative session.
Republicans on Monday decried several important changes made in the Senate â like allowing home grows and funneling revenues from a 20% tax toward conservation and public access funding. The House previously denied those proposals.
The House s first vote on HB 701 Monday went 47-53 against, which would have sent the bill to a conference committee where lawmakers from both chambers would have to push for additional compromise in the last days of the session.

HELENA â Republican lawmakers on a tax committee advanced a pair of bills Tuesday to cut Montanaâs top state income-tax rate â and the billsâ sponsor said they could both be enacted, with staggered effective dates.
Sen. Greg Hertz, R-Polson, said the goal is to not only reduce Montanaâs top rate of 6.9 percent down to 6.5 percent, eventually, but also to simplify and overhaul the stateâs income tax, creating only two brackets instead of six.
