A request for $40 million in state cash to help develop the new home for the Milwaukee Public Museum has secured a key approval from legislators.
But another large Milwaukee development, an office building proposed for the near west side, has been cut from a list of proposed state construction projects.
The new museum, apparently to be renamed the Wisconsin Museum of Nature and Culture, would be in a 230,000-square-foot building at North Sixth Street and West McKinley Avenue. That s just north of Fiserv Forum s parking structure.
It would also house Betty Brinn Children s Museum.
A budget proposal from Gov. Tony Evers estimates the cost of developing just the museum building at $170 million.
