LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The majority of National Forest recreation sites around the Tahoe Basin are now open and the 2021 season promises to be a busy one for Tahoe Recreation, the new concessionaire for many of the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit’s (LTBMU) popular campgrounds and day-use sites.
The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has received $850,000 from the first round of funding from the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) to work on five local projects. All of the planned projects will improve the visitor experience by reducing deferred maintenance and enhancing recreational infrastructure.
“The Great American Outdoors Act is a major investment in our public lands that will help us tackle deferred maintenance and infrastructure projects on National Forest lands at Lake Tahoe,” said Forest Supervisor, Bill Jackson. “Maintaining and improving our public facilities is a key factor in the Forest Service’s ability to deliver sustainable recreational benefits to the American public.”

On Wednesday, a local resident said they went to buy the annual pass at Baldwin Beach but was told they weren t available this year due to a new vendor on site. Another resident tried the same at Nevada Beach but was sent away with the message the passes were not available for summer 2021.
Lisa Heron, spokesperson for the U.S. Forest Service - Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit said the $85 passes will be available and is not sure why the public was told differently.
There is a change though which may be the cause of the confusion. There is no longer a senior discount of 50 percent off the pass. America the Beautiful Access pass holders get 50 percent off the daily entry of $10, so $5 each. Another change is the sticker received must be affixed to the vehicle s windshield.
