One million reasons to smile about FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup
With 500 days to go until the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup tips off, the NSW Government has announced it will invest $1 million into legacy initiatives to support the growth of the sport in NSW.
Minster for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said hosting the world’s best basketballers in Sydney would create significant benefit for the NSW visitor economy, provide entertainment for local and visiting fans, and inspire future players.
“At such an exciting time for basketball, the NSW Government is committed to ensuring the next generation of Opals have more opportunities to participate in the sport in the lead up and beyond the World Cup”, Mr Ayres said.

Netball World Cup 2027 returns to Sydney
Australian netball fans will once again have the chance to see the world’s best netballers in action on home soil, with the NSW Government today announcing the International Netball Federation Netball World Cup will return to Sydney in 2027.

Netball World Cup is expected to deliver an estimated $31 million boost to the NSW visitor economy.

Sydney Dragway ready for racing
Racers at Sydney Dragway are set for their best performances with resurfacing works officially opened today.
Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the new international standard surface forms part of the NSW Government’s $33 million upgrade of facilities at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“The NSW Government is committed to providing high quality and safe motorsport facilities for the drag racing community,” Mr Lee said.
“This upgrade replaces the previous 15 year-old surface and provides a world class surface for racers of all levels.”
