As the Eastern Ontario Health Unit posted one of its highest single-day increases in COVID-19 cases and an 84th fatality, medical officer of health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis suggested the increase was tied to Easter weekend gatherings.
The EOHU posted 63 new cases on Thursday afternoon, which Roumeliotis suggested might be a one-day record increase. While it is the largest increase posted within 24 hours of a prior update, back on Jan. 4 the EOHU had confirmed 266 new cases since its previous update on Dec. 31, which was an average of 66 cases a day over that time period.
