Louisiana s Department of Health is offering free single-dose COVID-19 vaccinations at events across Acadiana this week as all residents over 18 are eligible for the shots.
LDH s Region 4 Office of Public Health, which covers Acadiana, is organizing the events in cities across the region, most of which require appointments that can be made online at OPH4.timetap.com or by phone at (337) 262-5311.
The clinics will be offering the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines that do not require a follow-up second-dose to be administered weeks later, unlike the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna varieties.
The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for emergency use in people 18 and older by the federal Food and Drug Administration, and this week Louisiana is expecting to receive more than 67,700 doses of the Johnson & Johnson, according to data from the CDC.
