Police confirm Monday night shooting | News, Sports, Jobs - Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Apr 20, 2021 City police on Tuesday morning confirmed a shooting occurred around 8:15 p.m. Monday in Flanigan Park at the corner of Little League Boulevard and Walnut Street. Police said in a statement Tuesday that they were able to recover evidence at the scene and are looking for witnesses. A short time after the investigation began, police responded to a call at UPMC Susquehanna’s Williamsport Regional Medical Center, where a young man was being treated for a gunshot wound to his leg. The statement from police said the wound was not life-threatening. The victim was released after being treated. “This incident does not appear to be random,” the statement from police said. “A follow-up investigation, in this case, is currently being conducted by the Williamsport Bureau of Police Criminal Investigation Unit.”

mmaroney@sungazette.com A veteran Williamsport Bureau of Police lieutentant claims in a federal lawsuit that he was passed over for promotions because he filed complaints on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 29 against anti-union activity. Lt. Steven Helm, supervisor of daywatch, this week asserted in the complaint in U.S. Middle District Court his rights to free speech were violated. The lawsuit identified Mayor Derek Slaughter, former Mayor Gabriel J. Campana and the City of Williamsport as defendants. Slaughter, who returned a telephone call for comment, said any statements regarding the lawsuit would need to come from J. David Smith or Austin White, the city solicitors and firm of McCormick Law.

PHOTO SUBMITTED WILLIAMSPORT-In an effort to further promote safe walking habits, the Lycoming County chapter of Safe Kids Pennsylvania donated 40 copies of “Clifford Takes a Walk” to Williamsport Area School District kindergarten classrooms and primary school libraries today. Each classroom and library across the district will receive two copies of the children’s book that teaches the rules of pedestrian safety through Norman Bridwell’s famous Clifford the Big Red Dog and his kid companion, Emily Elizabeth.
