A project to bring a Navy warship to port in Erie is among initiatives that U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly has targeted for federal funding next fiscal year.
The Frigate in Erie floating museum project is one of 10 earmark projects for which Kelly, of Butler, R-16th Dist., has requested federal funding in fiscal year 2022.
Six of Kelly s funding requests are for projects in Erie County, also including almost $5.5 million for a new aircraft parking area at Erie International Airport and $1.4 million for Erie shipyard improvements.
Kelly s requests total more than $11.3 million.
Earmarks allow federal lawmakers to target projects for funding from about $14 billion, or 1%, of the federal government s annual discretionary spending. The money will be divided among legislators in the House and Senate.

This April junior early childhood/special education majors from Westminster College’s School of Education designed a Title I family engagement experience for local students and families to learn how to connect learning done at both school and home.
Westminster’s preservice teachers developed multi-disciplinary activities and lessons focused on the theme “What’s the Buzz” for this STREAM science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and mathematics event, which was launched April 6.
Preservice teachers shared read-alouds and aligned age-appropriate writing activities for Wilmington students in kindergarten through sixth grade in the Wilmington Area School District.
