The Advocate's Sheldon Mickles has spent four-plus decades covering the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints, while also being involved in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Mickles will be enshrined Aug. 28 in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame as a 2021 recipient of the LSWA’s Distingu .

Incoming LSU transfer Adam Miller helped lead the United States Under-19 Team to a gold medal in the FIBA 2021 World Championships in Latvia.
Miller and the United States were 7-0 in the tournament and beat France in the final 83-81. Miller had a solid day, scoring 12 points, grabbing four rebounds, handing out two assists, and picking up three steals. Over the course of the tournament Miller had a strong showing, scoring seven points a game in 20 minutes and was one of the top assists men for the United States.

(Bloomberg) California ordered a stage 2 power-grid emergency one step away from rolling blackouts as a searing heat wave drives temperatures into triple-digits and sends demand for electricity soaring.
The state’s grid operator called for measure as wildfires including the Bootleg Fire in south-central Oregon threaten transmission lines bringing power into California. It comes as a historic drought grips the Western U.S. and temperatures reach record levels in parts of the region.

Darius Days announced in a Tuesday interview on the Jordy Culotta Show he would be returning to LSU for his senior season.
I love Louisiana, I love the people. It’s going to be a fun ride,” Days said. “This is the last ride with me and Coach Wade. I’m the last one left with all the guys I came in with and we’re looking for a title. We’re trying to win a title this year. I heard about some of the games in practice over the summer so I’m very excited about the new guys and some of the returning guys. I’m excited about this season.”
