All things considered, the Minnesota Whitecaps have to be pleased with how things went on the ice in Lake Placid. They went 3–1–0 in the regular season and bested the Boston Pride by a score of 1–0 in a highly anticipated “rematch” of what would have been the 2020 Isobel Cup Final. That right there was worth the trip to New York.
Thanks to big performances by Amanda Leveille, Nina Rodgers, Audra Richards, and Sydney Baldwin, the Whitecaps were one of the best teams in Lake Placid. They were ready to go as far as Leveille could carry them, which was beginning to look like the 2021 Isobel Cup Final before the NWHL’s “bubble” burst and play was suspended due to an outbreak of COVID-19 and player safety concerns.

Nina Rodgers of the Minnesota Whitecaps is playing some of the best hockey of her life in Lake Placid. After four games, she leads her team and the league in scoring with six points in four games.
This is Rodgers’ third NWHL season after splitting her collegiate hockey career between the University of Minnesota and Boston University, and starting her professional career with the Connecticut Whale. She was expected to play a bigger role in the Whitecaps’ offense this year, but no one expected her to come out of the gate quite like this.
Whitecaps thriving in Lake Placid Bubble A week into the NWHL season in upstate New York, Minnesota has a 3-0 record and sits atop the standings. There s one big concern: Tuesday s opponent had to withdraw because of positive COVID-19 tests.

Life in the Lake Placid Bubble certainly hasn t been boring for the Minnesota Whitecaps, who have played a trio of one-goal games and emerged undefeated.
On Saturday, the National Women s Hockey League launched its truncated, two-week regular season and playoffs at Herb Brooks Arena – site of the 1980 Miracle on Ice Olympic triumph. The marquee matchup among the league s six teams on opening day was the game that couldn t be played last year because of the coronavirus pandemic: the Whitecaps vs. the Boston Pride in the Isobel Cup final.
