Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday stayed an order of the Lakshadweep island administration, directing the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) to attend pending legal works of various government departments, instead of posting them in the courts there.
The high court granted the stay on a PIL by Mohammed Saleem, challenging the directive of an Additional District Magistrate in Lakshadweep to the APP posted in Andrott and Amini islands, to attend the legal works of several departments, including preparation of chargesheet to help the police.

Kochi, May 24 : The Kerala High Court on Monday asked the Centre why the vaccines are not provided for free to the citizens.
Justice Vinod Chandran made this observation after his colleague Justice Devan Ramachandran on May 7 had taken up this issue suo-motu with regard to vaccination.
The court pointed out that even though it would cost Rs 34,000 crore, the Centre has with it Rs 54,000 crore by way of dividend from the Reserve Bank of India.
The court also highlighted that this was not the time to look into matters of federalism.
The accused were produced before the court which remanded them to judicial custody.

KOCHI: A three-member motorcycle gang who waylaid and robbed women of their valuables landed in police net in Kochi.Mansoor, 20, of Thoppumpady, Shuhaib, 21, of Thiruvambady, and Adarsh, 20, of Maradu were arrested by a team led by Assistant Commissioner K Laljy. The accused were history-sheeters, the police said.
The accused were arrested in a case related to the alleged snatching of a bag from a woman near Irumbupalam in Maradu. She was walking near Gandhi Square when the bag containing her purse and mobile phone was snatched from her. The motorcycle-borne gang targeted women walking alone.

KOLLAM: The Pooyappally police in Kollam on Thursday arrested three more youths in connection with the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in Kollam. The arrested were identified as Mohammad Noufal, 21, Mohammad Sajjad, 19, and Ahmad Shah, 21, all natives of Vettoor in Varkala.
Seven people have been arrested so far in connection with the case. Four of them, who were arrested earlier, have been remanded. According to the police, a total of 12 persons were involved in the gang rape and five of them are still at large.
