Hospitals said while they could not increase the number of ICUs and ventilators in a short time, they were trying to add more oxygen lines to support as many patients as possible. With about 192,000 active cases, Bengaluru has the highest Covid-19 case load among Indian cities. The case surge has caused severe stress on hospitals, while forcing people to scramble for beds.

India Coronavirus Dispatch: Delhi airport prepares for vaccine rollout

How is Delhi airport preparing to handle Covid-19 vaccine rollout As India inches closer towards an unprecedented vaccine rollout, the spotlight now turns to the airports that will play a critical role in the storage and distribution of the inoculants. This report in The Quint provides a glimpse into the preparations underway at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, the country s largest. The big questions are if the cargo terminal has enough storage capacity and how is the airport planning to handle the temperature requirements for the vaccine? The cargo terminal can handle 1.5 lakh million ton of cargo a year. The terminals are likely to function 24 7. Both of Delhi s cargo terminals have set up temperature-controlled zones and cool chambers. Cool Dollies will be at play to ensure that temperature remains intact as the vaccines go from terminal to aircraft and vice-versa, according to the report.

Covid-19: 14 ministers, several IPS officers received Covaxin vaccine

Several insiders declined to comment on the ministers and IPS officers being administered the vaccine. Dr K M Srinivas Murthy, Director of VIMSRC, said that the trial is anonymised, which means that Vydehi does not have access to the volunteer list.  “That information is held by ICMR. We do not know details about who is coming to be vaccinated,” he said. Shortage of volunteers Dr Naidu said the trial run seeks a total of 26,000 volunteers across 25 sites, as per a requirement set out by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The trial’s first dose of Phase III trials was administered on Dec 1 and the second one will be given on Dec 30.
