Roger Williams Park Zoo Offers a Drive-Through Holiday Lights Spectacular
The zoo has decked out its woodland trails and paths with more than 1.5 million illuminated lights in an effort to help support the wildlife.

Holiday Lights Spectacular drive-through display that weaves throughout the zoo, and it will remain open to experience through January 10. It’s all in an effort to help support the wildlife during a trying time for the facility that is home to more than 160 species of animals including zebras, red pandas, African elephants, Masai giraffes, snow leopards and more.

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat Hosts Reading | December 16
On December 16 at 7:30pm, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will present a streamed reading of the new musical “TL; DR: Thelma Louise; Dyke Remix.” Described as “a fantasy-driven, irreverent, queer, rock musical” remake of the 1991 film Thelma & Louise, the play features a book and lyrics by EllaRose Chary and music and lyrics by Brandon James Gwinn; it’s directed by Sherri Eden Barber. The cast includes Hannah Cruz and Sara Porkalob (the Broadway revival of “1776”), downtown artist Becca Blackwell (TV’s “High Maintenance” and “Shameless”), Ari Groover (“Tina: The Tina Turner Musical”), Nora Schell (“Jagged Little Pill”) and Jen Anaya (Constellation Chor). PROVIDENCE, RI Starting Thursday night, Roger Williams Park Zoo will come to life after the sun goes down, lighting up the night.
No, this isn t the annual Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, instead a new holiday tradition in the making. Rhode Islanders young and old can celebrate the season while stay socially distanced in their cars during the new drive-through Holiday Lights Spectacular.

More than 1.5 million bulbs line the walkways of the zoo, taking the shape of snowmen, dinosaurs, butterflies even Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The new holiday event was made possible through a grant by Rhode Island Commerce s HArT Recovery Grant Program. Zoo Director Jeremy Goodman said it will be here to stay in years to come in the form of a walkthrough similar to that of the jack-o-lanterns.
