Chavist candidate Pedro Castillo of the Peru Libre party and perennial conservative contender Keiko Fujimori looked poised to advance to the runoff after Peru s National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) had counted 93.479% of the votes.

Peru Gearing Up For Sunday Elections
Peru voters are preparing to head for the polls on Sunday, casting their ballots for the next president and congressional representatives.
Yonhy Lescano of the Popular Action party remains the leading candidate in the latest polls.
Lescano is followed by George Forsyth of the National Victory party. In total 18 candidates are vying for the presidency.
Lescano has been touring the country and during the last days of campaigning which ends Thursday, has been visiting various parts of Lima.
Meanwhile, presidential candidate of the Victoria Nacional political party George Forsyth recently announced that he contracted COVID-19 during his campaign activities in Madre de Dios, Junan and Cajamarca.

Ex-footballer George Forsyth has become the third candidate in Peru s presidential elections Sunday to test positive for the coronavirus, as the country also recorded a record daily death rate.
Unlike neighbor Chile, which had also been due to hold elections on Sunday but postponed them in the face of the health crisis, Peru s president has decided to push ahead, and some 25 million people are eligible to go out and vote. x
With a week to go, Peru on Saturday reported a record daily 294 coronavirus deaths.
And on Sunday, Forsyth s entourage announced he had tested positive for Covid-19 after developing symptoms during a tour of the north of the country.
